She’s already learning this trick, although thankfully for the most part it doesn’t work out to her advantage. Last night I was cooking dinner, and she wanted me to open a package of Sun Chips (one of the little 100 calorie packs) – I told her no, because I was gettig dinner ready and we’d be eating soon. She pleaded a couple more times, but I stood firm and stuck with telling her no.

So she pouts and walks away – toward her daddy’s office. I immediately knew what she was intending on doing, and sure enough, I hear her dad tell her no also. The only difference is that he sweetens the sting a little by telling her she can have them AFTER dinner (whereas that thought didn’t even occur to me).

Just as dinner is about done he comes out and relays their conversation – when she asked him if she could have the chips, he asked her in turn, “Did mommy already tell you no?”, to which she answers, “No.” Then he says he asked her again, adding something to the effect of ”I’m pretty sure I heard her tell you no,” to which she quietly says “yes” with another pout.

So not only is she trying out the fine art of asking the other parent when the first one says no, she’s also fibbing to try to get her way. Thank goodness she isn’t very good at either yet. LOL

Man last week was rough. I hope she doesn’t sprain another limb for a LONG time. It took three days before we could remove the shirt she was wearing the day she got hurt, and another day after that to convince her a warm bath would help her arm. Then Friday, she suddenly realized her arm did not hurt as much as she thought and she turned into a holy terror.

We went out to Petsmart to get some kitty litter and cat food, and looked at the animals while we were there.. the fishes, the kitties available for adoption, the birds, reptiles and rodents. All went fine until we got to the betta fish – then she wanted to try to hold one of the cups by herself. Um, NO. I told her mommy needed to hold the fishy, she could just look. She gave me attitude. I was considering buying a fish and a small fish tank, but I also wanted to get lunch and didn’t want the fish to cook in the car while we were getting our food. So I told her we’d maybe get the fish later and we needed to head out and get lunch.

More attitude. Maybe not so much for the “getting the fish later” part, but for the having to leave and go somewhere else part. She shrieked “NOOOOO!” and tried to run from me. That earned her a swat on the rear.

We check out and leave the store, and stand at the edge of the sidewalk before crossing into the parking lot. I want her to walk between me and the cart, not next to it. She refuses to cooperate, and almost darts into the street. I can just feel the gray hairs sprouting up on my head. I pick her up and plant her on the box of kitty litter in the cart. She’s crying, angry because she isn’t getting her way. I’m angry, because now I have no desire to attempt to take her into the restaurant I wanted lunch from to order our food, and it does not have a drive through, so we’re going straight home. She goes straight to the corner as soon as we get home. Ugh!

I got more attitude throughout the rest of the day, and had to take away the iMac from her room again so she’d nap (it’s back in my office now, it will no longer sit on her dresser even temporarily). At least she napped, though it took her until 3pm.

I mean, I was glad that she was finally using her arm and playing again, but geeze. I started to wonder where my sweet little girl went, and was very thankful I’d be able to go back to work on Monday and she to preschool. She improved over the weekend, though. I think it was just a bad day, she realized she had her freedom back and was completely snotty about it. She’s nearly back to her old self now, although still with a teeny bit of attitude, which she was exhibiting last night when she was supposed to be going to sleep.

So yeah, I’m glad to have my sweet girl back and the snotty girl that took her over on Friday is nearly gone. That is certainly one week I will hope to never have to repeat again in the future.

Last night we had a first in our house.

Our first, “if your kid/s is/are too quiet, that can’t be good”, incident. I have photographic proof, too.

This is what happens when you leave a pair of scissors within reach of your curious toddler. The above shot is after I attempted to try to see if I would be able to repair said damage, and realized it was a lost cause – I’m just going to rip out the whole thing and tie the cut yarn together and redo the blanket. Yeah, tacky to tie the yarn, but I don’t have any more skeins of this color, and I will see it as a way to remind her (and myself) – if it’s too quiet, something is wrong!

Basically, while dinner was cooking I sat down with her blanket because it was done except I needed to weave in the ends, and since she seemed interested in using the blanket, I told her I would finish it so she could take it to bed later. I have a small pair of foldable scissors and I had them unfolded to snip the yarn after I weaved it into the blanket enough. The timer for the first part of dinner went off, so I set everything down on my t.v. tray and went out to the kitchen to prep the rest of the food. Shortly after, my husband followed. The Kiddo went potty, and after I helped her clean up, I went back out to the kitchen, and the Kiddo went into the living room.

I was stirring the hamburger helper and realized – it was too quiet – and asked the Kiddo where she was. She answered from the living room, so I figured, ok, at least she is within ear-shot. Then my husband walked out to the living room a short time later and found her practicing her cutting skills on the blanket.

I could not be soley mad at her – it was my fault for not putting the scissors away. But I was upset because it was the first thing I started making for her that I actually was almost finished with. I have started SEVERAL blankets, either knit or crochet, but have not finished any, over the last three years, except this one, so I was so very sad when I saw how badly it was cut. I did manage to patch ONE of the smaller holes, but after examing that big one, there is no way I’m going to be able to fix it without ripping out the whole thing.

My husband casually said afterwards, “you should’ve gone with your instincts, hon.” Yep, I sure shoulda.

The last few days, I’ve noticed a little sore on the Kiddo’s tummy. First one appeared, it looked like it had been picked at, I figured she had just scraped herself on something, or it had been an itchy spot that she scratched until it scabbed up. Then another appeared, less than an inch from the other one, but smaller. Then one more, about the same size as the second.

Then yesterday, we get home and I go to change her out of her pull-up, and notice a HUGE blister (like, the size of a green pea!), near the first three other spots, plus another much smaller spot that also appeared to be a blister. What in the world??

When I took off her pull-up, I noticed that the “waist line” of it lined up exactly with where the blisters were at. Hmm. I wonder if something was rubbing wrong in that spot and causing the blisters? We are using Huggies brand, which I did notice that those have been redesigned sometime in the past couple of months, because now they have this extra purple elastic in the front and the back, which I presume is to make them “better fitting”. We’ve used Huggies in the past and she never had any issues, but that was before they redesigned them.

So rather than put her in another pull-up and make things worse, I put her in underwear and then we went to the grocery store. She did really good, only had a tiny accident when we first got to the store because dummy mommy didn’t think to have her use the toilet before we left the house, and when we got to the store, the second we step foot in the building she tells me she needs to go, and the bathroom is not exactly close to the entrance – maybe about 70 feet away. And 70 ft to a toddler who has to go potty, could just as well be a mile away.

She asked a second time while we were shopping to go to the bathroom, so I had to park the cart at the end of a check-out isle and dash into the restroom with her. The third bathroom visit came after we left that store and I realized, well crud, I forgot something! So I drove to a different store down the road (don’t want to look too dumb, ya know?), and she told me in that store she had to go again.

I swear toddlers must have bladders the size of a thimble.

Since she did so good, including going one more time before dinner, she got four stickers for her potty sheet – one for each visit to the potty. Today she went to school in underwear (instead of the usual pull-up), and the teacher took her to the toilet as soon as I left the room since she sat on our toilet for a good five minutes and didn’t do a darn thing. She’ll only be wearing a pull-up for nap time, but she does have a bandaid over the spot where the blister is/was, so hopefully that will be fine for just nap time.

I’m a little annoyed at this because we have a nearly full package of pull-ups now that we probably won’t be using anymore. I think I am going to write to Huggies and complain about this. I took a picture of the blister, too, so I will probably include that in the letter. I want my money back, I don’t even want to donate these to the daycare in case it rubs some other kid’s poor tummy to blistering.

It was rather odd that it was only on the one side, though. I guess she favors her left side in that case, since the blisters are on the left.

Anyway – has anyone else had this experience with the new design of this brand of pull-ups? I just wonder if it’s an isolated incident with just my daughter or if there are others it is happening to as well.

So last night, we went to dinner at Red Lobster with my husband’s mom & step-dad, to partake in RL’s Shrimp Fest all-you-can eat dealie. Yummy! Well, that also meant we got home a little later than we anticipated. The Kiddo really needed a bath, but 1) it was already bedtime when we got home, and 2) it was starting to storm outside with lightening, so there was no way I was putting her in the bathtub and risk getting us both fried.

So, I decided I’d try to give her a bath first thing in the morning. My husband usually showers in the hall bath, so he said he’d just use the stall shower in our master bathroom, and I could use the hall bathtub for the Kiddo at the same time.

First of all, she’s cranky in the mornings. Kind of like both me and my husband. Usually she likes taking baths. But first thing in the morning? Not so much. When I woke her up and asked her if she wanted to take a bath, she pouted and said “no!”, and threw herself back down into her pillow, complete with thumb-in-mouth. A clear signal – go away mommy, I’m going back to sleep!

I said “Fine,” and walked into the bathroom and shut off the water, and started getting dressed. Being cranky myself, I also told her she can go to school stinky and with her hair gross if she wanted, no skin off my back. Not my finest moment, for sure.

Finally with a little more coaxing and some tears on her part, I got her into the bathtub. Then she didn’t want to get wet (any more than just her legs). *sigh* More coaxing, more whining and tears, and we got her quickly soaped up and rinsed off. She likes to help wash so that helped change her mood a little, which made washing her hair (which was the entire goal, since it was quite icky from running around and sweating yesterday) much easier.

I think that will be the last morning bath for her for a while. Next time I’ll just wet her hair down and comb it out, and save bath time for night like usual as long as there aren’t any storms. Lesson learned.

Cranky toddler + morning bath = even more cranky toddler + a cranky mom

definition: a mis-pronounced word used by the Kiddo so often that the parent starts to use it, too. Sometimes.

The first one, and my favorite: pinnow

This is what she says when she means “pillow”. She has a little pillow lovey that I got for her last Christmas. It has always been “pinnow”. Until this week. I have also been calling it pinnow (just because I think it is cute), but she has started to correct me tonight. “No, pill-o, mommy!” I’m kind of sad about this one, really, I thought it was SO cute!

Another: glub

For, “glove”. This one, I try to correct her on. Otherwise it sounds like she is trying to say it with an extremely stuffy nose. LOL

That’s all I have at the moment. I know there are more but those are the two that stick out in my mind the most.
