The Kiddo was invited to her first non-family birthday party this weekend. It’s for one of her classmates in pre-school. It should be interesting since the time is right about when she would normally go down for a nap if it were a school day, so I plan on letting her stay up a little bit later Saturday night so she’ll wake up later on Sunday and hopefully be just about ready for her nap when we leave the party.

I still have to go shopping and find a gift for her friend. Her friend’s mom said anything Dora would be fine, her life revolves around Dora right now. I looked at W@l-M@rt the other day but their selection of Dora stuff was rather pathetic, so I’ll be going to ToysR#s probably sometime tonight or tomorrow to see what they have to offer.

It’s picture day at her preschool today. They did this earlier this year back in the spring, and those pictures turned out pretty well despite the fact that we totally missed the announcements about picture day and she wasn’t wearing anything special that day. LOL

Today I dressed her in a red shirt and a pair of black leggings with a Christmas theme – candy canes, bows, snowflakes. We don’t have any black shoes for her right now that fit so she is wearing her silver shoes with the toes worn down. Oh well. I also gave her teacher a little redc velvet clippy that I made a while back to put into her bangs before the pictures are taken. There was no point in me putting the clippy on her earlier since she would just take it out and it would get lost. She likes wearing bows and piggy/pony tails and such but doesn’t quite comprehend that they’re *supposed* to be left in the hair as long as possible. Heh.

Anyway I hope they turn out well. We’ll probably buy the whole package again, which last time cost like $65 for the entire pack of 10 sheets in various sizes. I’ll have to post one of them after we get them back so you can see my precious little girl.

On the way home after picking up the Kiddo from daycare/preschool, we chatted in the car with her like usual, asked her how her day was, if she had fun, etc. Today was someone’s birthday, and there was goodie bags, so she was digging through and eating the candy – a twizzler, a roll of Smarties, a DumDum and a little bag of Skittles – the only thing that was left by the time we got home was a few Smarties and the bag of Skittles – but only because she couldn’t open it herself.

Out of the blue, my husband asks her, “What’s 2 + 2?”

The answer from the back seat – “Four!”

My husband and I gave each other this look that said – “Did she just answer that correctly??”

So he asked her another question, “What’s 1 + 1?”

The answer from the back seat – “Two!”

Once is a fluke. Twice – and a different question at that – is not likely to be coincidence .

So he mixed it up a bit and asked what is 1 + 2. She said, “two.” 2 + 1? ”I don’t know.”

Okay, so she doesn’t just magically know all math. He asked what 2 + 2 was again, and she answered “Four” again. So she at least knows 2 + 2 and 1 + 1. She even repeated them again when he called to brag to Grandma and she asked the Kiddo.

We are thinking they may be teaching these at school, I figured I would ask them tomorrow when I drop her off in the morning and see what they say. If they are, that’s great that she is remembering so quickly. If they aren’t, then I wonder where she is getting it, because we aren’t teaching her that, and she doesn’t watch much “learning” television…

Actually, come to think of it, her classroom DOES have a computer (which she LOVES), and I know they have some learning games on it, so maybe she is picking it up from there?

I think that is just wonderful that she’s picking this stuff up. She already recognizes her name when it’s written and occasionally we will work on spelling it with her, and she also recognizes a few other simple words that we write on her magna-doodle. But we’ll not pressure her to learn this stuff early, if she gets it, she gets it and that is quite fine by us.

This will be a post that discusses poo (as discretely as I can, I hope), so if you are squeamish at the idea of it, avert your eyes and read something else. If it doesn’t phase you, then read on. :)

Yesterday at daycare, the Kiddo had a #2 accident. Sometimes she doesn’t tell anyone when she’s done this, so unless the teachers are instantly aware of what happened, minutes can pass before it is discovered. That was the case yesterday, they did not notice right away nor did she say anything to them that she’d had an accident.

Well, some if it fell out and messed her shoes. She really only has one other pair of shoes she can wear to school right now that fit since sandals are not allowed for safety reasons, and since we are trying to watch our money, I really don’t want to have to go buy another pair of shoes right now. These were $16 so there is no way I’m just going to toss them out if they can be saved!

When we got home, I opened the baggie that her soiled underpants, shorts, socks and shoes were in and discovered they had not discarded the, um, leavings, but had left it in her underpants. (Thanks very much, by the way. It’s already a load of fun having to wash these soiled garments, much less have to also discard the lumps of waste you people can’t seem to handle doing while you’re changing my daughter!) Yeah, gross.

So I scrub away the ick on her clothes and set them soaking and turn to the shoes. One of them is hardly touched at all, maybe an itty bitty speck if anything, so I set that one aside. I look at the other, and it took the brunt of the accident, but still wasn’t realy that bad – it was all on the outside of the shoe. So I got out an old toothbrush I use exclusively for cleaning icky things, lathered it up with soap, and scrubbed away. Then I rinsed off the shoe, and decided now that this one was less dirty looking, that the other shoe may as well get scrubbed, too. I cleaned it and then set them both outside on the back porch to sit in the sun all day today to dry and air out.

When I get home later today, if they are dry (which they should be, since it is still supposed to get to the mid 90s today), I will inspect them and give them a sniff test, and if they pass, then she’ll be wearing them to school again next week. If not, then I may have to admit defeat and probably visit a thrift store to get her another pair of cheap shoes until she can grow into the other two brand new pairs that are just sitting and waiting for her feet to fit them.

(not said in the tone typically used for that phrase – this is genuine)

I got the Kiddo dressed for school, had her give her daddy a kiss on the cheek while he slept, and then got her into the car, with her little sunglasses and her little “Lilo & Stitch” purse, and her “pinnow”.

Rolling down the road, I pointed out construction trucks and hot air balloons to her on the way to school.

When we turned the corner of the street where her daycare is at… she started to cry, saying “no school!!”.

Aww! I think somehow she knew that since daddy wasn’t in the car with us that he was staying home and that most likely I would be too (even though I will be telecommuting for work!), and was suddenly upset that she couldn’t also stay home. Poor kiddo. Sorry, girl, but it’s very hard for mommy to work when you’re underfoot with daddy unable to keep you entertained! The day will be over before you know it, and I know you’ll have fun at school, you always do!!
