Countdown calendarPosted on December 18th, 2008 @ 10:54 am
Yesterday my husband came up with the idea of making a countdown calendar for the Kiddo, to help her see how many days are left before she gets her presents. Every single day she asks, “my presents?”, so she grasps the concept that she’ll be getting to open presents, however she doesn’t quite get that it is still a week away before she can do that.

She’s rocking the piggy tailsPosted on December 17th, 2008 @ 9:46 am
Ever since she stayed over at her grandmother’s house and MIL put piggy tails on her for school last Friday, the Kiddo has been all about the piggy tails. Every single day. So now to our morning routine we’ve added putting her hair up in piggy tails before we head off to take her to school.

Sleep, sleep, SLEEP!!Posted on December 3rd, 2008 @ 9:03 pm
This is driving me crazy. The Kiddo has yet to take her afternoon nap. Usually she hits the pillow at around 12-1p. This week I’ve been letting her have a movie play (usually Tinkerbell) very quietly on the imac while she naps. Today I put in Cars, so I don’t know if it is partially because of that, or what… but by 4:15 and she STILL had not slept!
I told her at about one pm that if she did not go to sleep, I would take away the computer. I ended up having to do that at about 2pm. She cried and cried for about 15 minutes, screaming for the computer. NOPE. Not gonna happen. I went in and told her if she didn’t take a nap, the computer would not be going back in her room later, either. And it didn’t, because she never napped. My husband got home at about 5:15 and she still hadn’t slept, so I gave up.
I suppose she is getting close to the age where kids start giving up naps altogether, but I am certainly not ready for that to happen yet. Since her arm still hurts pretty badly today it looks like we’ll be home again tomorrow… I just hope she at least takes a nap and that today was an anomaly. Maybe if I decide to let her use the iMac again for movies that I’ll make sure to put Tinkerbell in at naptime since she seems to sleep ok to that one.

Germ farmsPosted on November 26th, 2008 @ 11:20 am
Yet another reason not to go to places like chuck e cheese…… they’re germ farms.
The Kiddo apparently picked up a bug while there on Sunday, last night she threw up and had a mild fever. Thankfully she slept thru the night without any further incidents, and she seems to be doing ok today so far *knock on wood*… I just hope she is 100% by tomorrow morning so we can go and have Thanksgiving lunch/dinner at her grandmother’s house. It would suck to miss it because she is ill.
Right now she’s sitting on her bed watching Tinkerbell on the iMac that I moved into her room for the day. I figure that having her in her room to watch movies will help her get some rest to get over the bug. My office is right next door to her room so when she hollers for more juice (generic pedialyte) or crackers I can easily hear her. And also hear the precursor signs of an impending upchuck…
Originally the plan today was for me to work from home so that I could go to the thanksgiving lunch her preschool was having and that parents had been invited to… but her getting sick changed that, so I ended up staying up late last night to do my telecommute work so that today I could be free to deal with a potential barf fest. I’m glad she is doing better today, I really hate having to hover with the bucket with a young girl who is only just grasping why mommy has to hold it in front of her when she wants very little to do with said bucket. When she’s feeling ok she kind of gets the idea of the bucket, but when her tummy starts feeling yucky she wants nothing to do with it and pushes it away. That’s always fun. Ha.

Report on the birthday party yesterdayPosted on November 24th, 2008 @ 10:18 am
I think she did fairly well yesterday, considering that most of it happened during her normal nap time.
When we first got there, the birthday girl’s family wasn’t there yet so we walked around looking at all the games and rides and such (it was at chuck e cheese), and she kept trying to get on the cars to ride them. I told her they needed coins to work and that we would need to go get some tokens, and she started to FREAK out, I think she thought we were leaving. She wanted so badly to go get on one of the “rides”, finally I was able to get it through to her that we weren’t leaving, but if she wanted to ride the cars and play the games, we needed to go get some “money”, and that we’d be right back for her to play. Birthday partiesPosted on November 21st, 2008 @ 10:47 am
The Kiddo was invited to her first non-family birthday party this weekend. It’s for one of her classmates in pre-school. It should be interesting since the time is right about when she would normally go down for a nap if it were a school day, so I plan on letting her stay up a little bit later Saturday night so she’ll wake up later on Sunday and hopefully be just about ready for her nap when we leave the party.
I still have to go shopping and find a gift for her friend. Her friend’s mom said anything Dora would be fine, her life revolves around Dora right now. I looked at W@l-M@rt the other day but their selection of Dora stuff was rather pathetic, so I’ll be going to ToysR#s probably sometime tonight or tomorrow to see what they have to offer.

Christmas Day will be quite interestingPosted on November 17th, 2008 @ 12:00 pm
The Kiddo is already super excited to see all of the different Christmas decorations that the stores are putting up for sale already. W@l-M@rt has a tall Christmas Tree at each entrance with huge red & green unbreakable ornaments on them, and she always MUST go and look and inspect (and touch!!) the tree and its ornaments.
And, I think she wants a pink tree, too. LOL Pink being her favorite color right now, this does not surprise me much. I mentioned this to my husband and he kind of poo-poo’d the idea, saying we already have a tree, she can enjoy that one. Still, I am considering getting her a pink tree, if just for her play area. But I’d probably save putting it up for Christmas Eve after she goes to bed. If I have enough $ leftover after gifts, I may get her one. I think she’d be ecstatic at having her own, PINK, tree. And of course I would have to get her some pink and white ornaments to go with it. But we’ll see.
Of course when we put up our little 4 ft green tree, she will be helping put the ornaments on the tree. I’d still like to eventually get a taller tree to put in the front window, but that may have to wait until next year. I may look into getting a 6 or 8 ft after the holidays depending on what is leftover with the sales. I want to get a pre-lit, that is what our 4ft tree is and I totally like the fact that we don’t have to mess with tangled messes of lights during the decorating process.
I just hope that she can keep her hands off the ornaments once they are up. I have a feeling we’ll have more trouble with her keeping her hands off the tree this year than we did her first and second Christmases combined.
On a side note, I think it’s bad enough that stores had their Christmas stuff up for sale the day after Halloween, but even the radio station that plays Christmas music exclusively each Christmas holiday, is already playing Christmas music. Thanksgiving hasn’t even come and gone yet, people! I know the economy is in the tank so stores want to make the most of their time, but really? Christmas music on the radio? Please. I like my share of Christmas music, in moderation, but this is just too early. So we shall be avoiding that and any other station that plays Christmas music until we feel the time is right to start listening.
