Not posting here, definitely.  Not posting on my thoughts blog, either.  It’s not for lack of stuff to talk about, just lack of motivation.

So, my daughter is five now.  We had her fifth birthday party over this past weekend, at a place called JumpStreet (trampolines, and a couple of bounce houses for the under 7 crowd). She had a blast.  Her gifts consisted of Zoobles, Littlest Petshop (always a favorite), ZhuZhu pets, and some other items.  Speaking of gifts.. I need to write up some thank you cards soon.

Anyway, she’s growing like a weed.  Nearly tall enough to ride every ride at Disneyland if she wanted.  I expect she’ll reach that height before her next birthday. She needs to slow down!  My baby is pretty much gone, and is becoming a spunky little girl. *sigh*

She’s doing really well in pre-K at her daycare.  She’s learning sight words – for instance:  like, look, you, too, me, the.  Words like those.  She knows how to write her name (pretty well by now), and almost knows her address.  We’ll probably work on the phone number in another week.  Gosh, by fall she’ll be in Kindergarten, if she doesn’t test into 1st grade instead!

Well that’s it for now, just a short update.  Can’t promise I’ll be posting any more frequently than I have been, and this is really just a post for myself anyway, I’ve been bad about keeping track of things regarding her and her growth, at least in my own words anyway.  Bad mommy!

And she is so proud of herself when she goes on the potty, particularly #2.  Woot!  

Out of the blue, my husband asks her, “What’s 2 + 2?”

The answer from the back seat – “Four!”

My husband and I gave each other this look that said – “Did she just answer that correctly??”

So he asked her another question, “What’s 1 + 1?”

The answer from the back seat – “Two!”

Once is a fluke.  Twice – and a different question at that – is not likely to be coincidence .

So he mixed it up a bit and asked what is 1 + 2.  She said, “two.”  2 + 1?  ”I don’t know.”

Okay, so she doesn’t just magically know all math.  He asked what 2  + 2 was again, and she answered “Four” again.  So she at least knows 2 + 2 and 1 + 1.  She even repeated them again when he called to brag to Grandma and she asked the Kiddo.

We are thinking they may be teaching these at school, I figured I would ask them tomorrow when I drop her off in the morning and see what they say.  If they are, that’s great that she is remembering so quickly.  If they aren’t, then I wonder where she is getting it, because we aren’t teaching her that, and she doesn’t watch much “learning” television…

Actually, come to think of it, her classroom DOES have a computer (which she LOVES), and I know they have some learning games on it, so maybe she is picking it up from there?

I think that is just wonderful that she’s picking this stuff up.  She already recognizes her name when it’s written and occasionally we will work on spelling it with her, and she also recognizes a few other simple words that we write on her magna-doodle.  But we’ll not pressure her to learn this stuff early, if she gets it, she gets it and that is quite fine by us.

So I step outside into the hall and out of her site, and in moments she announces she is done, that she poo-poo’d on the potty.  I clapped and cheered and heaped on the praise, and gave her TWO stickers (usually she gets one for going #1).  Then after clean up we went out to the living room and she announced to her daddy what she did, jumping up and down excitedly.  And of course he clapped and heaped on the praise, too.

I hope this is a start of things to come.  She still had another pee accident later after that, but I don’t mind those so much if it’s only a little bit (she finished in the toilet).  I just dislike cleaning up the poopy panties, particularly if it’s not, um, solid.  Ick!

Anyway.  Yay for the Kiddo!!
