Sometimes I wonder what goes on in her mindPosted on September 30th, 2008 @ 2:00 pm
Yes, this will be another potty-training related post.
So yesterday, I decided since it wasn’t that hot out when we got home, and with the sun going down I could work mostly in the shade, I decided to hit the front yard and do some weeding. I had the Kiddo stay outside with me while I worked, since her dad decided to hunker down in front of his computer and play some Warhammer.
Maybe about 10 minutes in, View the rest of this entry…

Make me a sammich!Posted on September 27th, 2008 @ 9:34 pm
She is reaching the age where she can do simple tasks or errands for us if we ask. For instance, one day I was in the bathroom, and had forgotten to check the toilet paper stash before going about my business. There was none left, so I asked her to go get me some more. It took her a few minutes, but she found where the toilet paper was kept, and brought two rolls of it to me.
Also, she is able to open the refrigerator. So we can ask her something simple like, “Get mommy/daddy a soda, please!”, and she will. Basically, as long as she knows where something is, and is in the mood to be helpful, and it isn’t dangerous, she is happy to help.
I know I should enjoy this as long as it lasts, especially when she is old enough to want to help out with bigger chores like cleaning the dishes and such… Because I know one day it is going to be a fight to get her to do anything chore related. At least not without a lot of grumbling and groaning and mumbling under her breath.

She just can’t shake the strep virusPosted on September 26th, 2008 @ 7:18 pm
First, there was a sign on the door of her classroom, (a few weeks ago), noting a confirmed case of strep was in the pre-k room next door (they go through the same main door, pre-k is separated from preschool by a half-door).
That weekend, she came down with a sore throat and spent a morning throwing up. Then a week later, her daddy got sick, and when he went to the doctor the following Monday, the doctor’s suspected strep but he tested negative so they can only assume it may have been, based on his high fever and other symptoms.
Then, she gets impetigo, which is caused by strep. We diligently put on the antibiotic ointment on the sores, and they’re pretty much all but completely gone.
Now? Friggin’ PINK EYE. ALSO caused by – you guessed it, strep.
UNCLE! UNCLE!!
Please let up on the illnesses, please! We’re running out of sick/PTO time at work, and there is still three months of the year left!! AAAGGGHH!!!

Halloween is right around the cornerPosted on September 25th, 2008 @ 11:51 am
Like anyone doesn’t realize that already. LOL
I still haven’t decided what the Kiddo is going to be this year. I don’t even think she has any clue either, since she doesn’t quite understand the idea fully just yet.
Her first Halloween, she was a vampire witch. It fit perfectly because she was just getting her top teeth in around that time – and the teeth that came in were NOT her front teeth. It was the two teeth on either side of the two front teeth. So she looked like a little vampire. LOL I’ll have to post a pic of that this weekend so you can see what I mean.
Last year she was a pixie princess (she had no wings, so she wasn’t a fairy princess).
For the most part I have to pick a costume that she isn’t going to melt in, because where we live, the temperatures are *maybe* in the low to mid 70s at night around Halloween. Maybe. So it’s not like I can pick some ultra fluffy outfit that would keep her snug and warm, because we don’t need it. She’d be a puddle of sweat halfway through trick-or-treating. So, stuffy outfits are out.
I’m thinking ladybug maybe, if I can find one that is made with lightweight material. If not I can probably try to make one with black onesie/leotard and tights, and make the “wings” out of cardboard or something. Why spend the big bucks on a pre-made outfit when a handmade one would look just as cute? I mean, she’s 2.5 years old, so come-ON! She’s cute without a flippin’ costume!

Advancing in potty trainingPosted on September 24th, 2008 @ 10:20 am
I am happy to report that the Kiddo used the potty for #2 last night! This is only the second time in two months that she has done so. The first time she went into the bathroom by herself and called me in, this time she walked up to me as I saw on the couch watching TV and said “Mommy, potty again!” (she had just gone #1 a short while prior). So we trotted back to the bathroom, put her up, and she told me to go away (just like last time).
So I step outside into the hall and out of her site, and in moments she announces she is done, that she poo-poo’d on the potty. I clapped and cheered and heaped on the praise, and gave her TWO stickers (usually she gets one for going #1). Then after clean up we went out to the living room and she announced to her daddy what she did, jumping up and down excitedly. And of course he clapped and heaped on the praise, too.
I hope this is a start of things to come. She still had another pee accident later after that, but I don’t mind those so much if it’s only a little bit (she finished in the toilet). I just dislike cleaning up the poopy panties, particularly if it’s not, um, solid. Ick!
Anyway. Yay for the Kiddo!!

My child is strange sometimesPosted on September 22nd, 2008 @ 11:32 am
But whose isn’t, really? Kids can do some really funny things, and also some really weird things.
Something she likes to do recently, and I really have no idea why… is climb on the couch and wedge herself behind me (kind of like if she was going to do a piggy-back ride, but sitting), wrap her little arms around my waist and pull me back so I’m leaning on her. I don’t put all my weight against her of course. Then she’ll just sit there, and peek around me to try to see the television. I guess maybe she sees it as me sitting on her lap, without really sitting on her lap? Because when she sits on my lap, that is pretty much how it is – she sits on my lap, and my arm/s are around her waist. *shrug*
This next bit, cracks me up every time she does it, which is probably why she does it. When she’s wearing a diaper or a pull-up, and it’s started to get saggy (which means we’re obviously overdue to change it – oops), she will stand with her legs apart and shake her little butt and make the saggy part flop back and forth. And she’ll do it with a ear to ear cheesy grin on her face, because she knows it will make mommy (and daddy too if he’s nearby), burst out in laughter. And then shoo her into her room to change said saggy diap.

Fun with PlaydoughPosted on September 18th, 2008 @ 2:18 pm
Tuesday evening, my husband decided we should go to the toy store and buy the Kiddo some new playdough and some of the play sets that go along with it, since a) she really likes playing with playdough and the accessories when she is at school, and b) it would give the two of them something to do while he stayed home with her the next day.
So off to ToysRUs we go, and we bought a Dora themed fun-factory, the food making set, and a package with smaller tubs of playdough and oodles of little extras – playdough scissors, letter stamps, etc.
And of course, she could hardly wait to open them when we got home. Heck, my husband was even excited to open them up. LOL
We probably sat and played with the playdough for about 30 minutes before it was time to get her ready for bed, at which point we would get an emphatic, “NOoOooooo! Pay pay-dough!” We were finally able to convince her that she’d be able to play with the playdough the following day.
Which she did. In addition to watching Lilo and Stitch several times.
I’m sure I’ll be picking bits of playdough out of the carpet for while to come.

Chapstick: It’s the new Crack.Posted on September 17th, 2008 @ 10:40 am
“Jus’ a wittle bit.”
Anytime the Kiddo sees my purse, or even a glimpse of a tube of Chapstick (or any type of lip balm, for that matter), she HAS to put some on. And she says that phrase, to let me know she is bent on doing so.
She will unzip my purse, and root around inside to find that coveted tube. If left to her own devices, she will apply it. And apply it. And apply it some more. Nope, not done yet – and more and more. She would probably try to put half a tube of it on until she was caught and stopped.
So any time I hear that phrase, and I am not in the same room as she is, I have to RUN to find where she is to keep her from using up the entire thing.
Somehow, I think my daughter will definitely not follow in my footsteps when it comes to make-up. I wear little to none of it except on special occassions. Seriously – my make-up expires before I can even use 1/16th of it – and that’s being generous.
I have a feeling she’s going to be a definite glamour girl when she gets older.

New templatePosted on September 16th, 2008 @ 11:16 am
I wanted to add a header – well, add text to the header – but the template I was using before didn’t have a header for starters, and second, I couldn’t find any good alphabets to match up with the colors.
So I switched to a different template and added text to the header. I kind of like it, at least when someone visits it will be clear what the name of my blog is. LOL
Anyway, I got the images for the letters from Lettering Delights, using their free title maker. It also lists any fonts or alphabets that you’ve already purchased, but the best one that fit with this template was a freebie alphabet.
Now to find one that matches up with my other blog.

Finally, a different moviePosted on September 16th, 2008 @ 8:58 am
I finally convinced her to watch something else besides Toy Story 2. I think my poor iMac was about to keel over from playing that one constantly.
We’ve moved on to Lilo & Stitch. I expect that one to play over and over. And over and over. And over.
I swear I start dreaming about these movies after hearing them so many times.
